Caterina Silva was born in Rome in 1983. She lives between London and Rome.
Caterina Silva explores the links between power and language from a silent, non-discursive perspective in order to elude canonical structures of the production of meaning. Through the use of various pictorial and performative techniques, Silva records details of the space where she works, traces of her everyday life, but also fragments of collective unconscious: news, disasters, revolts as other unnamable objects which can refer to death, chance, love, pain, joy, despair and other errors in the system.
In 2015 she was invited to the 16th Cairo Prize, in 2018 won the 9th Combat Prize.
She has been artist in residence at Cité des Arts, Paris, 2013; Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, Amsterdam, 2015-2014; Asia Culture Center, Gwangju, 2016; NKD, Norway, 2018; ARP, Cape Town, 2018; Bocs, curated by Giacinto Di Pietrantonio, Cosenza, 2019; Fondazione Spinola Banna, Poirino, 2019.
